3. Digital Age Learning Environments
ISTE Coach Standards in Action
c. Coach teachers in and model use of online and blended learning, digital content, and collaborative learning networks to support and extend student learning as well as expand opportunities and choices for online professional development for teachers and administrators.
In an effort to connect our 19 YouthBuild Charter Schools teachers and administrators to a one stop location for Google Drive Training/Support, I created a Google+ Group to address this need. In this community I am able to post video clips, articles and handouts on how to use Google Drive in the classroom and for collaboration site wide. I intend to use this Google Group as a model on how to you online and blended learning by interacting with teachers and administrators. I have teachers inquiring on best practices for using Google Forms in the classroom for quick assessments and at the same time I get questions from administrators on how to use Google Forms to inquire about meeting agenda items. Teachers and administrators get a simple notification on the top of their browser when I post new information and I get quick email that I can reply to with any support that I can provide.
As I reflect on my progress with the Google Training/Support Group, I would like to see more teachers and administrators added to the group. This is an idea that I share with my Assistant Principal and she will give me an opportunity to present it during our Winter PD in November. By this time, I wish to conduct a survey to teachers and administrators that have been using the group and ask for feedback on how to improve the group. I would also I like to open the group for teachers and administrators to share resources and best practices. The feedback that I am receiving so far are positives and teachers are sharing how they are using Google Apps more confidently in the classroom. Long term, I intend to create live Google Hangouts for about one hour or less on Ed tech for those who would like more support.
